Portugal heeft in Europa de hoogste dichtheid aan inheemse druivenrassen, meer dan tweehonderdvijftig. Het wijnlandschap loopt van Vinho Verde en de Douro tot Dão, Bairrada en Alentejo. Mensen, bodems en microklimaat maken de diversiteit aan terroirs en wijnen nog groter, van assemblages tot monorassen. Portugal has the highest density of native grape varieties in Europe, more than two hundred and fifty. The wine landscape runs from Vinho Verde and the Douro to Dão, Bairrada and Alentejo. People, soils and microclimate make the range of terroirs and wines even wider, from blends to single varieties. Classic methods with open vats, clay jars or skin contact stand next to modern winemaking. Port, Madeira and Moscatel are known worldwide.
